Case Study
You have noticed that one of the new members of staff, seems very quiet. She does not tend to talk to the other team members during break time and struggles to work in partnership with them. Her practice is good, but you would to like to see her engaging more spontaneously with others. You suspect that this may be a confidence issue.
What can you do to support this new member of staff?Consider:
- Who would be the best person to support the new member of staff?
- How should you address the issue with the member of staff?
- Should you talk to the other staff members about your concerns?
- Is the staff members practice impacting the service provision negatively? If so, why?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
