Case Study
You are working in a school and have been told that you will be given responsibility for supporting the teacher designated to safeguard the welfare of the children in the school. One of your tasks will be to ensure that the staff are kept up to date with current policy and procedures surrounding safeguarding issues. You have been asked to clarify what the school needs to do to ensure they meet the requirements for vetting staff and the current situation regarding the Vetting and Barring Scheme which was due to begin the first phase of registration on 26th July 2010.
Write a brief report for a staff meeting to include the following information:
- The reasons behind the introduction of the vetting and barring scheme
- The original planned schedule
- New developments since the election of the coalition government in May 2010
- What schools should do in the meantime
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
