Understand the terms ‘radicalisation’, ‘extremism’ and ‘terrorism’

Case Study

You have heard one of your friends talking about a group he has become part of at his local football ground. They meet before every match and all sit together at the ground. However, you have realised that he is beginning to change. He used to be very easy going with a diverse group of friends but now he is arguing with everyone. He is using racist language and will not listen to anyone whose skin colour and religion are not the same as his.
  1. Is this something to be concerned about?
  2. Are there any extremist groups that share the same ideologies?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
