Joshua has been diagnosed with ASC (Autistic Spectrum Condition) and he has an obsession with the vertical blinds often found in offices and doctor’s surgeries. As his support worker you need to escort him to the hospital for an appointment with a consultant there. You have already mentioned Joshua’s obsession to the hospital staff who seem to feel they will be able to cope with the situation. You know that this will quickly get out of hand but Joshua needs to attend this appointment. 1. How will you deal with this situation? It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
