Be able to implement person-centred daily plans to promote participation

Case Study

Sue has learning disabilities and lives in supported housing with three other people. She sits in her chair in the sitting room staring out of the window for much of the day. The TV is often on but she takes no interest in it. She likes going out in the car and watching out of the windows. She likes music, and enjoys her meals. She rearranges the ornaments on the shelves, particularly when the staff have been dusting. If anyone puts anything down in the sitting room she will immediately pick it up.
  1. How would you get Sue involved in active support?
  2. What could you do to help Sue interact with others?
  3. Do you think Sue’s care plan needs to be reviewed?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor
