This is a collection of four videos. Each of the first three videos focuses on an individual with dementia, some of their actions and their feelings, and the reactions of those caring for them. The fourth video looks at how important it is for carers to be aware of how an individual with dementia is reacting, and to consider the reasons for their actions.Watch the videos and reflect on whether each situation is inclusive, oppressive or features discrimination - are the needs and wishes of the individual listened to and understood?

This article from the Alzheimer’s Society looks at ‘Moving into a care home – advice for lesbian, gay and bisexual people’ and gives links to useful organisations.
‘Equality, discrimination and human rights’ was also published by the Alzheimer’s Society and describes their support of a rights-based approach to the treatment of individuals with dementia.
This research briefing titled ‘Black and minority ethnic people with dementia and their access to support and services’ was commissioned by the Social Care Institute for Excellence. It may not reflect current policy by provides valuable practice guidance.
‘Dementia: Equity and rights’ is a collaboration by various voluntary and community sector organisations. It looks at how access and provision of services must take into account the needs of particular groups in the population. The publication provides invaluable information about the rights of people with dementia.
The all-Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia inquiry produced a document called ‘Dementia does not discriminate: The experiences of black, Asian and minority ethnic communities’ which looked at the services and support for people living with dementia in the UK within minority ethnic groups.
