Case Study

In your annual review, your manager lets you know that you will be getting a pay rise. She asks you not to tell anyone else in the team as it was only for the highest performing team member, and that was you. When the reviews are over, your team goes out for a drink. Your colleague and friend Khadija ask you how your review went. She also asks if you got a pay rise as she heard from her boyfriend, Luke who works in HR, that they were giving pay rises to the top performing team members.
  1. What would you tell her?
  2. Has Luke done anything wrong?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
