Case Study

Rishi, a business administration apprentice with his organisation, has a meeting with Celina and Shiraz to discuss a new company newsletter and its contents. At the end of the meeting he summarises the main points that have been discussed.
In his summary he mentions the newsletter and the phone calls he needs to make, along with his plans for follow up emails. Unfortunately, he leaves out the information that there is deadline of a week, and that there needs to be a team meeting the following week.
Consequently, Celina and Shiraz do not come to the meeting because Celina is on annual leave and Shiraz is already in another meeting.
- What did Rishi not do at the meeting?
- What could he have done to avoid leaving out vital information in his verbal summary?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
