Case Study

It is 9.30 and you have been asked to photocopy a large document on headed paper and distribute it to several team members, and also arrange for a courier to deliver it to a client’s home address. You have been told that everyone must have the document by 11am so everyone has time to read it before a conference call at 12pm.
One of your daily tasks is to open and distribute the post, and this has to be done by 11am. While you are preparing for the urgent task and your daily task, another member of staff asks you to make some calls to clients letting them know that their orders will be delivered today.
You are starting to feel pressured as everything needs to be done all at once, and you only have one pair of hands.
- How would you manage your workload to alleviate some of your concerns and achieve your targets?
- Who would you speak to?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
