Understand why behaviour and attitude are important in a business environment

Case Study

It is Evan’s first job and he has been working in the customer service department for a large banking firm for a month. At the end of work one Thursday evening, he overhears a personal conversation between two co-workers and the supervisor. The next morning, Evan tells everyone what he had heard and soon the whole department is talking about what Evan had told them. When Evan’s supervisor finds out what has happened, she calls Evan into her office for a meeting.
  1. What Evan correct in discussing what he overheard?
  2. What do you think the supervisor will say to Evan?
  3. If you were one of Evan’s co-workers, what advice could you give him?
  4. If you were Evan’s supervisor, what could you do to help him become a better employee?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
