Case Study
Your school has taken Erik, aged 4 years, into its reception class. Erik’s father does not understand why he has to follow a curriculum with themes, principles and areas of development. He thinks this is not fair for such a young child. He also does not want to give your school any information about Erik’s contact with a behavioural specialist for his biting problem. He thinks that your school will pass the other information on to others and that Erik will be labelled a ‘problem child’.
- Which pieces of legislation do you need to explain to Erik’s father?
- What will you say to reassure him?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
