Case Study
Claire is 15 years old and has dyspraxia. You are the teaching assistant for Claire and you notice that she has not been very happy for some weeks. You decide to ask her if everything is alright. During the interview she tells you that her father has left home and that she is very upset about this. She tells you that she has been sleepwalking and is not eating. She isn’t coping very well with the situation. She has been tearful and short-tempered. Her mother is very upset too and hasn’t been out of the house in 2 weeks.
Describe the communication response that would be appropriate in this situation and include reference to your facial expression and body language.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
