Be able to contribute to reviewing assessment for learning

Case Study

You have been working with the same group of learners for a couple of weeks on a project and you find two pupils particularly difficult. The girls seem to dislike each other intently and you find yourself concentrating on their constant bickering and put downs rather than on their learning. You need to deliver feedback to the teacher at the end of the week on the group’s progress towards their personal learning goals, but you are finding it hard to find anything constructive to say about these two girls.
  1. What might you do to help the girls focus on their own personal learning goals and the forthcoming review?
  2. What would be the benefits and disadvantages of asking the girls to write the feedback for you?
  3. What steps could you take to ensure that your feedback to the teacher is honest and accurate?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
