Case Study

You are taking a group of children aged 13 years to the local town centre to conduct a geography survey on shop usage. You will be walking there and spending three hours there, so the young people will be permitted to bring a snack and a drink. You are going to hold a meeting with the geography class before you go to talk about health and safety.
- What risks might there be on the trip and what will you ask the young people to do to minimise the risks (i.e. not being on their mobile phone when walking to the park)
- What resources do you need to make sure the young people have?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
