AAQA1-1

Case Study

You have two learners within a setting working towards the same qualification. Natalie is slightly older than Imogen, and began working in the company three months earlier, but they both started the qualification at the same time. Imogen is more confident and is able to easily identify situations which can provide suitable evidence of competence where Natalie is quiet and seems to struggle identifying suitable opportunities. You have contact with both learners on a fortnightly basis, and write quite detailed plans for both. After each contact their plans are reviewed and updated with new tasks, however Natalie continues to struggle and feel demotivated, her confidence is very low, and she is now thinking of coming off the course.
  1. Think about what actions you could take to firstly build Natalie’s confidence and motivate her.
  2. How could you ensure you adhere to equality and diversity legislation and support her in a way that would help her progress and achieve her target?
  3. How could you begin identifying her needs, and how could you continue to support her in a way that was appropriate to those needs?
  4. What adaptations might you make to how you assess her and would you change the way you wrote the plans for her?
  5. What assessment methods could you use to assess her competence?
  6. Whom would you inform of the situation, and whom might you speak to for advice?
  7. It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
