You have been asked to help settle a new client into their room. Paolo is a large man with learning difficulties and limited communication skills. His wife Rosa is also in the room and says that she is glad that Paolo has finally got a room at your setting as their son often comes home from the pub and beats him if Paolo interrupts his television. About a week later you see Paolo’s wife again and she is wearing heavy makeup and avoids eye contact with you. You are sure the makeup is hiding a black eye.

1. What if any safeguarding issues are there concerning Paolo now he is resident at your setting and what will you do about them?
2. What, if anything, will you do about your suspicions that Rosa has a black eye?

Explain the reasons for your answers above. It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong.
