Abbas is 6 years old and has just joined your school having arrived in your town from Syria with his uncle after a long journey. You have observed that Abbas, although he does speak and understand English, is not joining in with the other children when they are playing. He is reluctant to play outdoors and has been seen taking food from others’ plates.

1. What external and personal factors do you think could have impacted Abbas’ development?
