Case Study

Pavani, who is 7 months old, is new to your setting and you are her key person. She is full time and this is her first setting.
Her mother has told you that she likes animals, especially farm animals, including soft, wooden and plastic toys, in books and in rhymes. Pavani has a soft toy which is her comforter and her favourite rhyme is ‘Baa, baa, black sheep’. She is not yet crawling and her first language is Urdu.
- Describe what you would plan for Pavani and why, using your copy of the EYFS Statutory Framework and Development Matters to support and guide you.
- Make a list of questions you would need answers to either through conversation with Pavani’s mother or through observing Pavani.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
