Case study

A number of the residents in your setting want to start a cycling group as exercise and to explore the local area. One of the members of the group has young-onset dementia and has a tendency to wander off. Another has type 1 diabetes with no hypo awareness, while a third has dyspraxia.
Research each of the conditions and assess the risks in each individual taking part in the group.
- How can you enable each of them to take part in the activity?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
