She has only ever seen one other person with Down’s syndrome and he is an adult who is unwell much of the time with limited speech skills. Suzanna has read that children born today with Down’s syndrome can go to normal state schools, learn to read and write and lead a healthy active life.
  1. How could you help and support this mum?
  2. Where could you direct her for information?
  3. Would it be right to give your own opinion?
  4. How do you feel about this situation and do you know enough to advise and support well, or do you need to learn more?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
