Your nursery is undergoing some major renovations which include adding two additional rooms. One room will be used by 2-3 year olds and the other is an additional room for the 3-5 year olds. You have been asked to help with planning the new room.
- What kinds of resources would be on your wish list to support the children’s emergent literacy needs?
- What effect, if any, does the emergent literacy needs of the children have on how you would like the room laid out?
- Are there any differences between the emergent literacy needs of the 2-3 year old’s room and the 3-5 year old’s room? If so, what are they?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary.
