Understand how the Early Years practitioner supports the development of speech, language and communication of children

Case Study

Mendoca is 7 years old and has speech and language difficulties. She has had grommets fitted twice and, although the effect is good initially, you notice that after a while she retreats into her own little world and stops making the effort to join in. Mendoca attends your after-school club and you want her to join in more of the games and activities.
  1. Think of 5 strategies that you could use to help this child.
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
