Case Study
Your setting has moved into a new building and you now have a large outdoor area. At the moment there is nothing but grass outside.A number of the parents have said it would be nice to leave the grass so the children can run around and there won’t be anything for them to climb on and get dirty
- Using the theoretical perspectives and the guidelines from the EYFS how could you develop this area to support the physical development of the children?
Remember that the area will be used by children from 0 months to 5 years.
- How can you explain to the parents the benefits of a natural outdoor environment with areas where the children can climb over and under obstacles, build dens and explore nature?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
