Understand the importance of reflection for professional development

Your manager has asked you to take a course on safeguarding children and young people as she feels like you could do with gaining some more knowledge in this area. Before the course starts, you want to feel prepared for it and get the most out of it.

  1. What would you say your current level of understanding is, and where would you like it to be?
  2. How could the course improve your practice?
  3. Are there any specific areas / good practice in safeguarding you would like to learn more about?

It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
