Safeguard children and young people who are present in the adult care sector
It is the end of the day at your care home and most of the visitors have gone. One visitor, Leila, who you know quite well asks if Caleb has been in today as she normally sees him with his son, Parker on a Wednesday.

Leila then tells you that she’s worried about them as there has been some gossip in the local area that his new girlfriend has a history of violence. She asks you for their address as she wants to go round and check they’re ok.
- Leila is clearly concerned and wants to help. How should you respond to her request for Caleb and Parker’s address?
- What action, if any, should you take immediately?
- Who, if anyone, should you discuss today’s conversation with?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
