Be able to lead activities which support the development of speech, language and communication of children

Displays and mobiles in the setting are an excellent way to convey the visual atmosphere of the setting. Parents and children benefit hugely from well-chosen resources and attractive displays. Design and prepare an Interactive Interest Table displaying three dimensional objects.

Bear in mind the following:

  • Think about the location of the display and where it will be most enjoyed.
  • Use a range of stimulating features (visual and tactile).
  • Consider linking the display to a common theme (e.g. ‘Winter Wonderland’, ‘Colours’, etc.) Take plenty of photographs for the table.
  • Make sure the table reflects children’s personal thoughts and suggestions which are added to the table.
  • Link the table with statements from the seven areas of learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Make the table work on different levels, not simply a flat surface.
