Understand how to work with children and young people to support their well-being

Case Study

A parent of a child in your setting is over protective and will not allow their child to go to the park or climb on anything more than 50 centimetres high. When this child is in the playground he does not run around like the other children but plays alone or sits on a swing. He seems very afraid that he will fall over or get hurt in some way.
  1. How will you approach your concerns with this child’s mother and father?
  2. What strategies would you put in place to help this child?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
