Case Study
You have noticed that Rasul, a 15 year old boy in class has been uncharacteristically quiet this week. When the teacher asks him in front of the class how he is, he mumbles ‘fine’ and looks down at his textbook. You hear one of his friends saying that his family are going through some financial difficulties and might have to sell their home. You went through a similar experience when you were his age and feel like you may be able to offer some advice.
- Do you think it’s important for Rasul to talk about how we might be feeling with a trusted adult?
- How could you approach Rasul about this and what would you say?
- Is there any resources or support services you could suggest to him?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
