Be able to observe and report on learner participation and progress

Case Study

A parent complains to the class teacher that her daughter is being bullied at playtime. You have been asked to carry out an observation at playtime of the child’s interactions with others and report on your findings.
  1. What type of observation will you choose to do?
  2. How will you present your findings?
  3. How will you carry out the observation (i.e. where you will be situated, the length of the observation etc)?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
