Case Study
Miss Okoye has been developing a plan of action with Katya, a thirteen year old girl who lives with a foster parent. As Katya will be choosing her GCSE options soon, they have been discussing career goals and future plans. Katya has expressed an interest in a career in medicine and after much discussion about different jobs within the medical sector and entry requirements, Miss Okoye and Katya agree on a career as a paramedic as her long term goal.
- If you were Miss Okoye, what short and medium term goals would you set?
- How could you engage Katya’s foster parent in her plan of action?
- Why do you think setting career-related goals is useful for planning educational development?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
