Case Study
Mary works for a car sales company and produces documents for all departments of the company. Mary is preparing a report for her manager, Erol, and the chief accountant, Francoise, on the number of used cars the company buys that don’t pass their MOT. She has included a table of information on the make of car, the points that require rectification, and the cost of each. After completing the report, checking, and attaching it to an email and sending to Erol and Francoise, Mary receives a call from her manager who is furious and asks her why she didn't show him the figures to check before sending to Francoise. There are errors in the figures and he feels that it reflects badly on his department.
- What do you think Erol could have done to prevent this happening?
- What could Mary have done?
- How can they improve the situation now?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
