Understand how to supervise an administration team

Case Study
Westwich Local Council is participating in an Employer's Day in Westwich Town Centre. The administration team will be playing a major role in planning and organising this day – in particular setting up the exhibition stand and arranging the layout of the stand. Julia has had a meeting with the admin team to discuss the team's goals; these have been agreed in principle and a plan is being developed. Holly has a conversation with Shiraz after the meeting and because Shiraz has a degree in Marketing he feels he could have done a better job of organising the council's stand. At the next team meeting Shiraz is quite disruptive and does not seem to want to participate in team working or keep to deadlines and quality standards – and the rest of the team are conscious of this and consequently are all feeling uncomfortable and unmotivated. Julia is also aware that a problem has arisen and whilst she doesn't want to make an example of Shiraz (or discipline him at this stage in the project) she knows she must do something to improve the team's morale.
- What do you think Julia should do?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
