Case Study
The learning group at St.Agnes Sixth Form College have been saddened to hear that one of the members of their group, who had not seemed well recently, was suffering from depression that led to anorexia. The parents of Cameron told the college that he was very unhappy with his weight and was being teased for being ‘chubby’, even though he was the ideal weight for his age and height.
They decide to start a campaign for a healthier attitude towards body image at their college. They discuss creating posters, running events, and getting a nutritionist in to give weight management advice. They also want to start a healthy eating cookery class.
- Do you like their ideas? What would you do to promote positive attitudes towards body image at the college?
- Is there a risk of making people more self-conscious?
- Who do you think are the best people to run the campaign – staff or students?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
