Case Study
You have just received a resignation letter from a junior practitioner in which he advises that his family is moving abroad and so he will be leaving at the end of the week.
- Draft an ‘action plan’ that shows all the tasks that need to be completed in order to replace this member of staff.
- Include dates for each action and any other staff that need to be involved (to maintain confidentiality use only initials or job titles).
- Realistically how long will it be before the current member of staff can be replaced?
- What steps will you need to take to bridge any gap between the current practitioner leaving and the new one being in place with full responsibilities?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
