Manage induction in health and social care or children and young people’s settings

Case Study

During a meeting of senior staff at your setting concerns have been raised about the induction process currently in place for new staff. Sarah complains that she needs additional staff now and that they can learn on the job like she did when she first started 10 years ago. Ramala disagrees saying that she thinks new staff should not be allowed anywhere near the clients until they have completely finished their induction.
  1. How would you respond to Ramala’s comments?
  2. How could you help both Sarah and Ramala to understand the aims and objectives of the induction process?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
