Afreen, a 3 year old girl, has been attending your setting for 6 months now and she is very happy there. Every morning her grandmother bringsher to nursery and her mother picks her up.Afreen is due to change rooms at the nursery in 6 weeks due to her age, however Afreen has been missing from the nursery for the last three days and you have heard that her mother has passed away. Her grandmother is not coping well and will not be able to collect her each day as well as drop her off at nursery.

2. How could you get Afreen back to nursery after a reasonable bereavement break?
3. How can you help to ensure Afreen can still attend the nursery, where she is so happy?
4. What can you do to help Afreen come to terms with the bereavement?
5. How could you manage the transition to the new room in nursery?
6. What will you tell other staff and should you organise any additional training?
