Case Study
Colin is one of the children in your class who will soon be moving to the next class in your setting. Colin’s parents have already been advised of the move and know the date it will happen and the name of Colin’s next key person. You have told Colin’s parents that over the next few weeks you will be preparing Colin for the transition to his new class by talking with him and completing some fun activities.
Colin’s mother feels that Colin will be upset by the news that he is moving class and has asked that he not be told until the day of the move.
- How will you explain the importance of preparing Colin for the transition to his new class to his mother?
- How can you support Colin’s parents during this time of transition?
- What sorts of activities could help Colin prepare for this transition?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
