Understand monitoring and assessment in the early years

Case Study
You become aware of a discussion being held between two practitioners in your setting regarding the term ‘secure judgements’. Unsure about what it means, you decide to research it and deliver a 15 minute training session at your next staff meeting.
- What is a secure judgement?
- How do you know as a practitioner that you have made a secure judgement?
- Can you make a secure judgement if you only see the child use the skill once?
- Who can help a practitioner to make a secure judgement?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
