Understand current frameworks for inclusive practice

Case Study

One of the key workers in the setting has approached you with the learning records of one of the children in his care. He shares with you that, although the child is receiving weekly support from a speech and language therapist, he feels that the child could benefit from further support. He illustrates his concerns by sharing the latest observation reports and the tracker of the child's early learning outcomes. He says that he has looked into other professional support that may be available and he has come across the Early Talk Boost Intervention programme. He is wondering if this is something the setting can implement and says he is happy to lead on this project. You decide to look into this and realise that you will need to apply for funding to access the programme.
  • Consider the Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) and what you need in place to apply for this funding?
  • Explore who you may need to liaise with (other professionals – apart from parents) and how this communication should be conducted?
  • Consider the impact on the setting when applying for this funding and how you may be able to use it?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
