Case Study
Annabelle recently became a key person for Roud, aged 3, who has Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. This is a condition which may impact his learning, attention span, memory, and problem solving abilities. It may also include physical, behavioural and learning disabilities.
Annabelle has not heard about this condition before, but knows she needs to find out as much as possible to be able to support Roud and his family’s needs.
- How can the SENCO support Annabelle?
- What does Annabelle need from the SENCO and the manager to be able to fulfil her responsibilities according to the settling’s policies and procedures?
- How can Annabelle work with the parents/carers to support and reassure any concerns they may have which will include their wishes and needs for their child?
- How can Annabelle make sure that her ongoing observations and assessments, form part of Roud’s EHCP?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
