Understand requirements for partnership working in early years settings

Case Study
You overhear one of your mentees, Anita, talking to a speech and language therapist about the challenging behaviour of a three-year-old child she supports, Massimo. The therapist starts to explain the impact of speech and language difficulties on a child, but Anita interrupts and tells the therapist that it must be because the child is ‘looked after’ and goes on to tell the therapist some confidential information about the child’s family history.
- Has Anita shared information inappropriately here?
- What would you say to Anita about this conversation in your next mentoring session?
- What could you do to ensure all staff at the setting understand respectful communication and information sharing principles with other professionals?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
