Healthy living

Case Study

Marjan is a young lady who work in a day nursery. She often talks about how she goes running or to the gym every night, and that is how she keeps fit. The staff in the nursery she works in have a habit of naming people for their talents or attributes. They do this in a fun way and people are given nice nicknames like ‘Miss Organiser’, ‘Miss Tidy’ etc. Marjan is known as ‘Miss Healthy Living’. Karen, however, has noticed that every time break time Marjan has at least one can of fizzy drink, and she never drinks the low sugar versions. She also says that, because she goes straight from work to the gym, she often eats fast food or skips dinner.
  1. This is not really the sign of a healthy lifestyle. How might you want to advise Marjan about the damage she could be doing to herself by regularly drinking fizzy drinks full of sugar, junk food and skipping meals?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
