Case Study
It is the end of the day at your setting and most of the children have gone. One parent who you know quite well asks if Caleb and Parker have been in today as she missed their mother dropping them off in the morning. You confirm that no, they were not in today. The other mother then asks you for their address as she is worried about the family; the children have not been seen for a few days and there is gossip in the neighbourhood that the mother’s new boyfriend is violent.
- This other parent is clearly concerned and wants to help. How should you respond to her request for Caleb and Parker’s address?
- What action, if any, should you take immediately?
- Who, if anyone, should you discuss today’s conversation with?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
