Case Study
You are in a health and social care setting that does not currently represent your local community, in terms of the indiduals coming from a diverse range of backgrounds. Additionally there is very little diversity among staff members with few ethnic minorities or disabilities represented. You know that increased diversity would greatly enhance the experiences of all users at the setting.
- How does increased diversity enhance the experience of all who use the setting?
- What would you do to increase diversity at the setting?
- How would you encourage all staff to get behind the project?
- What might need to be implemented at the setting to facilitate change?
- What additional training might staff need?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
