P3-1

Case Study

1 You have a new client moving into your group living environment. This client has been living quite independently until recently. They would like to bring with them a selection of martial art equipment including a collection of samurai swords which you understand are very sharp. This client is moving into your group living environment due to challenging behaviour which his parents are finding increasingly difficult to manage. You are aware you currently have at least two clients who have been known to self-harm in the past. The new client has made it clear that he expects his sword collection to be displayed on the wall in the living room.
  1. What are the implications of having the swords on display in a public area?
  2. How could you approach your concerns and find a mutually acceptable conclusion to this issue?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
