Case Study

You are about to teach a class in your organisation. The studio’s health and safety capacity is 25 and you have a fully booked class at 25 including four brand new people to the class. At the start of the class you have 25 people but then three minutes into the class two people try to join in and creep towards the back. Then a lady complains about the temperature of the room because it is a full class and a warm day outside.
Half way through the class a lady falls over because another lady had left a weight out and hadn’t put it away when instructed to do so. She seems okay and wants to carry on with the class.
- What should you do before the class begins?
- What should be done with the new attendees?
- What questions should you ask before the class begins?
- What should you do about the two ladies that joined the class late?
- Does something need to be done about the temperature?
- What do you need to do during and after the class about the accident?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
