Case Study
You are working with Rhys who has dyslexia and struggles with his schoolwork. He needs to choose his GCSE subjects and he is interested in taking woodwork as he enjoys it and thinks he might like to be a carpenter when he is older. However his parents want him to take a more academic subject like History or Geography as they are hoping this will help him get to university later on.
- How could you support Rhys through making this choice?
- What will you say to Rhys’ parents?
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the response you have chosen to this scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague and ask them to tell you if they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your tutor.
