Case Study

You have a new client starting with you. Her name is Jenny and she works as an office assistant from 9 am to 5 pm every weekday. She is looking to develop her strength as she has to pick up a lot of boxes and packages for people and deliver them around the office. She also has to carry files up and down the stairs because there is no lift so she wants to improve her cardiovascular endurance as well. In addition, she feels she has not got the best posture.
- Think about the health and fitness assessments you would do on Jenny.
- What tests would be appropriate?
- Would 1rep max or muscular endurance be more appropriate?
- What cardiovascular endurance tests would you do?
- Is the step test or the 12-minute Cooper test better?
- How would you assess her posture?
- Static posture?
- Dynamic posture? Including movement patterns such as overhead squat or push
It is rare that there is just one way to respond to a scenario or situation, so do not consider that the responses you have to the above scenario will be judged as right or wrong. Share your scenario with a work colleague or friend and ask them to tell you whether they think you have responded appropriately. Ask them to challenge your response if necessary. You do not need to submit this task for assessment unless asked to do so by your assessor.
