The Early Years Foundation stage requires every child to have a Key Person who must ‘help the child become familiar with the setting, offer a settled relationship for the child, and build a relationship with their parents’. What are the advantages and disadvantages of someone other than the Key Person doing some of the observations on a child?
Look at how your setting involves parents in the observation of children. How useful do you think parental observations are? How relevant is objectivity and subjectivity when dealing with parental observations?
