Understand how to plan to meet the needs of the developing child

Borrow a copy of ‘Planning for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ by Sandra Smidt (Routledge 2009). This book is part of the Practical Guidance in the EYFS series. Chapter one looks at the benefits of planning, while chapters 2 and 3 looks at planning for learning.

Click on the icon to the left to have a look at ‘Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage’. You do not need to read all the document but it can be used as a reference when you plan. It includes suggestions on what adults can do based on the areas of learning and development of the EYFS, divided by age ranges of children. It also includes an overview of the planning cycle.
NB You do not need to buy these books. You should be able to borrow them from your local library or from your setting.
Borrow a copy of ‘Planning for Children’s Play and learning: Meeting children’s needs in the later stage of the EYFS’ Jane Drake (Routledge 4th Edition 2013). The book includes chapters on planning, linking with parents and observations.
